About this deal

But on saying that, I do think this book opens up conversations that are useful and necessary for just about everyone! His hate messages are threatening, and he threatens Almond with even more… Amara Sage‘s debut title is raw and unflinching. The beginning felt incredibly slow, then suddenly, midway through, some twists and turns happened, but towards the end, it became dull again.

I didn't anticipate that I would feel so emotional as to be almost brought to tears reading this book, but here we are! At times I really felt for her, and that's a testament to the author's great writing, That being said, this book may not be for everyone due to some of the topics being triggering. I found the story itself really engaging, and something I’ve not seen much in ya fiction, and it had a great cast of characters and great writing.I would heed the content warnings for this book however, as the subject matter it delves into, while incredibly important, is also extremely heavy. I can't think of anything worse than having my whole life online and yet so many people are born into that now.

Almond is only 17 and her mother has moulded her into being the perfect teenager, with her perfect skin, perfect life, and endless free beauty products to promote. Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter? Influential" casts a strong and unrelenting light on the influencer industry, intersections of the mommy blogger/child influencer genre, beauty and teen use of social media. Sadly parents are pushing us towards it too in most cases with no concern regarding wants of the child at every level. The author’s writing style was so easy to engage with too, and even though this is a YA, the main characters are 17/18, and the writing style reflects their ages well, and the author doesn’t shy away from their emerging sexual and emotional feelings.Holly Bourne is a great advocate of young teens reading about difficult issues as a 'safe space' to consider and discuss those issues, this book does a great job in that sphere. I highly recommend picking up this YA debut, regardless of your age, as so many issues are dealt with within this book, my other recommendation maybe a box of tissues nearby as some of the content was pretty emotional, and brought tears to my eyes, but then on the next page I was crying with laughter at the sheer craziness of Almond, Heather and Joss. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. Almond is forced into the spotlight when she was just a perfectly filtered bump: her mum has been documenting their family through social media since before she was born.
